The Distance Learning Center offers a Home School Program using several
innovations in education which meet state and district guidelines and standards. Students' educational needs
are met through a means of flexible academic schedule and by utilizing various educational resources.
Parents, as partners with teachers, are involved in their children's education and are responsible for
delivery of curriculum.

The Center for Distance Education and Independent Learning is part of the
College of Rural and Community Development. The Independent Learning Program (IL) is the oldest distance
delivery program at the University of Alaska and has offered correspondence courses for more than forty
years. There are more than 100 courses available, though the variety of courses is not designed to meet the
requirements of any specific degree program. Some required courses for various degree programs, however, are
included in the IL offerings.

students will expand their ocean knowledge through multi-media presentations. Students can meet animal
guests, explore our exhibits, talk with researchers and animal keepers, and complete hands-on activities.
Using inquiry-based learning each conference will utilize research and rehabilitation programs
happening at the SeaLife Center.
