Skillshare Review

The last post I wrote about, P2PU (Peer to Peer University), was about learning from your peers instead of learning from teachers and other faculty, which proved to hinder some in their endeavors to provide themselves an education. At Skillshare, not only can you learn from peers but you have the advantage of learning with both students and teachers as well! The prospect of learning with both the traditional spread of information from teacher to pupil and learning from your peers can prove to be one of the most beneficial ways for you learn.

Both Skillshare and P2PU offer the same layout, enabling the learner for easy navigation. Although the same in principle, that anyone may become a teacher and direct a course, Skillshare offers the ability to be paid per class. The teachers are expected to pay fifteen percent of each ticket sold. Students pay for the classes they wish to take. If you are interested, you may apply for a course-teaching position here.

As of 2013, there are several new classes offered at Skillshare for you to participate in. Below are the course names and descriptions.

  • Rock Poster Design: From Concept Development to Execution:
This online course, taught by DKNG Studios, offers to help design (from start to finish) your own concert or event poster. As a graphic design hobbyist, this course seems appealing to me as DKNG Studios has helped to design posters from some of my favorite groups, such as Explosions in the Sky. The class is categorized as a beginner level class, so for those who are unsure of their abilities in vector design, this class is perfect. The class is twenty dollars, which seems to be well worth the money if you are interested in graphic design.
  • Design and Make Your Own Statement Necklace with For the Makers:
For fashion enthusiasts, or perhaps even those who want to make a gift for a fashion enthusiast, this class is one you won’t want to pass up. The class is free and lasts only a week, which is perfect if you are limited in your time. For the Makers have worked with expensive brands such as Anthropologie and Kate Spade. This class is also for beginners who do not even know what tools they need to purchase.
  • Get Fit In The New Year… And For Life:
Brian Wang, the co-founder of Fitocracy, has offered this class in the past to help others to change their life in a more positive manner through the utilization of a fitness plan. For the new year, instead of making a new year’s resolution, some would benefit from making a permanent life change instead. This course offered to help others gain the knowledge necessary to make changes for themselves.
  • Get Your Startup Funded in 2013:
If you’re asking what a startup is, this program, which is of beginner level as all of the others are, may be perfect for you. Do you dream of starting your own business? Have you gone as far as to calculate the start up and costs involving running the business? If so, this course wishes to aide you in your dreams. The course offers to help make a perfect ten slide pitch to those who will be funding your business.
