North Dakota Distance Learning

North Dakota is a state that has many distance learning opportunities available to students within the state and those living elsewhere. From high school students taking online courses to college students completing degrees, North Dakota schools offer something for everyone. One of the state’s leading distance learning initiatives is its emphasis on adult education. North Dakota has some of the best online adult education options in the United States.

Adults wishing to complete a high school diploma or GED should look at the North Dakota Center for Distance Education. Offering over 130 online courses, it’s the perfect way for students to complete high school or obtain a GED in a convenient fashion. Students have direct access to teachers as well as tutors, and all instructors are fully licensed by the state. Enrollment is done online and is very easy, and students have the ability to work at their own pace. Homeschoolers can also use this site to complete their studies or just take an individual class. Both middle and high school courses are available, including advanced placement and credit recovery courses. It even offers college entrance exam prep classes as well as interactive clubs such as STEM, a science club for girls.

The University of North Dakota has a great online and distance education program specifically geared for working adults. Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees are offered, as well as certificates. Bachelor’s degrees include General Studies, Communication and Chemical Engineering. Master’s degrees offered are Aviation, Counseling, Forensic Psychology, Mechanical Engineering and countless others. Certificates are also available as either graduate level, career training or licensing preparation. Examples of certificates include Autistic Disorders, Building Analyst, Digital Arts and Environmental Engineering.

The university’s online programs have garnered many awards. It’s MBA program was ranked seventh in the nation by GetEducated.com, while the 2012 Guide to Online Schools ranked it as the third-best military-friendly school and one of the Top 12 Nonprofit Online Schools in the country. No matter what a student’s background, the university has a program that can fit a person’s interests and lifestyle.

The North Dakota State College of Science provides students with a wide array of choices for their education. This two-year college offers students over 80 different programs from which to choose including degrees, diplomas and certificates. Over 160 courses are completely online, and the school is known to be very military-friendly to veterans and their families.

Online courses follow the same academic calendar as on-campus classes, but once started students have 24/7 access to their courses. Students can earn degrees in Architectural Drafting Technology, Business Management, Computer Information Systems, Construction Management, Health Information Technology and many others. The school also works closely with the Department of Veterans Affairs to ensure both active duty and discharged soldiers and their families have opportunities to further their education. A tuition waiver is available for members of the North Dakota National Guard, and financial aid programs such as the G.I. Bill and GoArmyEd are also helpful to those seeking more training.
