Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke is also one of the most innovative colleges when it comes to distance education. Virginia Western offers over 500 classes online to students, and also offers three Associate degree programs totally online. They are General Studies, Social Science and Veterinary Technology. For those students who have never taken online courses before, an online orientation is scheduled at the beginning of each semester. Students wishing to enroll in distance learning courses must have access to an internet-connected computer and have a valid email address.
For state employees, the Virginia Department of Health offers training courses and other information online. Video conferencing is a very popular option with employees and covers such topics as computer software training, telemedicine consultations and powerpoint presentations.
